I had an epiphany late last night. After decompressing from puppy watching for the day (actually the last three days), I realized that I was built for this chaos. I have been living with a rambunctious pup for over 30 years. I speak of the love of my life, my husband. Let’s break it down…
- I have to tell him NO all the time to correct behavior. ( no more salt on your corn, no more boats)
- Treats make him so happy. Ice cream is always kept in the freezer.
- If I leave the door cracked open he will run ( to the boat).
- He requires a lot of socializing time with others where he can share his toys.
- He can be destructive when not watched. Unpacking the dishwasher too fast has resulted in many wine glasses being broken.
- He likes to bark. It’s usually at me on the boat saying “ look at that boat…” or at the TV screen during a baseball or football game.
- He enjoys dinghy rides and looking at birds.
- Loves to play in the water .
- Is extremely loyal to me.
- Loves everyone.
- Would rather be surrounded by his family than anything else.
- Runs to the door when he hears the voices of our children.
- Is very protective. Don’t come near his family if you have any malcontent.
- Likes long walks (usually with the real pups).
- If you say the word “cookie” he comes running.
He forces you to have fun. This is important because he is married to a house cat who would love nothing more than to sit in a sunny corner and just read.
He can be exhausting but in all the right ways. His exuberance for life, love for everyone, and wanting lots of connections. Playtime and fun are always on hand.
I, of course, say all this in fun, as he is an extremely well-balanced businessman, husband, father, and friend with a fantastic sense of humor, who even found this post hysterical and gave me ideas to add to it. If you have someone in your life who brings you this joy, tell them today. Reward them with a phone call or a visit. And give them cookies just because it will make them happy. And never forget a gentle scratch behind the ears and saying the words they want to hear…. I love you.
