Provisioning is the act of being prepared for a journey. When we head out on the boat for a weekend or a week, there are particular items we must consider. What will our meals be? Will we be eating under sail or on an anchorage? Do we have the necessary equipment to make the meals? A simple meal of hamburgers is a bust if you forget to check the propane levels. The list goes on and on. Isn’t that life, though? We covert the experience, the lifestyle. What result do we want in our lives but fail to plan the many steps to get there?
A year ago, I had the opportunity to work with a life coach. At the time, this process was new to me, but I was interested in exploring it. Little did I know that it would be a catalyst for a new passion and career path, one with a lot of preparation. In keeping with the provisioning theme… my voyage destination was my company, Waypoint Life Coaching. To get there, I had to ensure I had equipped myself with the following….
- A professional certification and training
- Business start-up education with the UCONN SBA
- Applying and registering the company with my state and IRS
- Meetings with banks, chambers, insurance, legal counsel, and accountants
- Hiring a website designer
I had to put these things on my prep list before heading out on this new adventure. I am not going to lie. Even putting all this in writing is giving me hives thinking about all the tiny moving pieces. Still, the prep was worth it because knowing I had everything planned out made it comfortable. Instead of trying to adjust on the fly when I realized I did not have that propane to spark it up and finish my planned menu of life. I ask you this…what have you provisioned for, and is there an item you have forgotten that may set you off course?

Not sure how to sign up for your blog but as a new resident to GLP and a boater, I think it sounds interesting.
