I am heading out on a journey where I will be exploring life. I am not going deep here. Religion, philosophy, politics, relationships, and parenting advice are not part of my travel bag. What do I have packed? A little bit of everything else. All the odds and ends you have rummaging around, causing a mess in your closet and drawers that can get messy, but are imperative for smooth sailing in life. Once I get all packed up, I will be ready to head out.
Outside of my written words on drawers of my life, I will be exploring different destinations on Southern New England’s coast. For each town, I will talk about my favorite restaurants and things to do, introduce you to people I have been fortunate to come across and share stories with, and share my favorite recipes. That being said, I do not like to travel alone so I am inviting you to come along with me and bring some friends along. I have plenty of room, the company will be exceptional, and if someone misbehaves, we will just toss them overboard.
So here we go…are you ready to join me as I make this passage? Fantastic. But before we set off let me go over a few onboarding messages…
- In the event of choppy seas, prepare yourself for some sarcasm and snark which is a bit of my love language. I like finding the ridiculous in the heavy times because going through life without laughter is like sailing without wind. You are still trying to head in the right direction but it’s not fun.
- There is a saying that I have heard since the first time I stepped onto a boat. One hand for yourself and one for the boat. Remember this! One is to steady yourself and one to work. Isn’t that a life lesson.
- Once we are under sail, there is never an easy way off. It’s a process of maneuvering that takes time to get to your destination. A lot of the tacks you take will be uncomfortable, but you make them because it’s the only way you’re getting to your harbor. The sail is worth all the work. You put in the effort, the planning, get messy, incur the bumps and bruises from being jostled around, but in the end, when you have dropped the sails and the anchor upon arrival you think…what can be better than this and then you… chart out your next voyage.
- So strap on your PFD and clip-in. With those in place you are safe.
*If you are feeling your out of your depth with the sailing terminology just refer to the sailing terms tab it will explain things like “on the hard” just means when the boat is on land.
So ready to head out? Great. Let’s cast off lines and go! I will release new blogs every Tuesday and look forward to engaging with my new crew! For now, please introduce yourself, where you hail from and if you were leaving today what your trip essentials be?
